JCSP – Junior Certificate School Programme
The Junior Certificate School Programme (JCSP) is a national programme under the auspices of the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST). Currently, the programme is offered in 224 schools throughout the country. JCSP operates within the Junior Certificate/ Cycle curriculum. It follows the curriculum framework set out for the Junior Certificate/Cycle, which is re-focused to cater for JCSP students.
Is this an alternative to the Junior Certificate ?
It is not an alternative to the Junior Certificate/Cycle – it is a plus ! All of our students at Junior Cycle follow the JCSP along with their studies for the Junior Cycle.
What is the difference between the JCSP and the Junior Certificate ?
All of our Junior Cycle students follow the JCSP over the course of 3 years – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Year. It is an addition to their Junior Cycle studies. At the end of the 3 years they receive a JCSP Profile and a school reference. The Profile is an official document from the Department of Education.
Do students sit the Junior Certificate examination ?
Absolutely! The whole point of participating in the Junior Certificate School Programme is to stay at school, experience success in school and become more confident about sitting the Junior Certificate/Cycle Exam. Check out www.jcsp.ie for further information.
Do many students fail JCSP ?
Students cannot fail JCSP. The Programme is about success. It is an addition to the Junior Certificate/Cycle. Achievable statements are carefully chosen. Students get an opportunity to complete a series of statements and build their own success profile – a profile listing all the things they can do and a reference from the school.
What are the core subjects ?
There are no core subjects as such. However, all students must be entered in the Junior Cycle Exam.
